At-home red light therapy, in depth
Twenty-nine searches for one job: doing red light therapy at home instead of booking a session. The idea itself grew, "red light therapy" rose over the last twelve months against the twelve before, though its searches peak each April, so read that as direction rather than size, and the equipment grew faster. People shop it three ways: by form (mask, panel, bed, mat, belt, pad, lamp, hat, a full-body bag), by use (face, hair, pain, now gums) and by brand.
The body-sized devices grew fastest, measured the last twelve months against the twelve before: mats 621%, belts 549%, full-body therapy 477%, panels 461%, beds 207%. The general search for a device is up 357% and draws 74,000 searches a month, the same as the mask. The mask is still the biggest single form, and its buyers compare: "best red light therapy mask" draws 40,500 searches a month. But it is marked peaked, and a household-appliance brand sits in it: Shark's red light mask draws 18,100. The panel side has its own brand in Hooga, up 284% at 12,100 searches a month. A second tier of fitness and device brands has arrived, LifePro and iRestore, the Nuvio mat, at 1,300 to 2,400 searches a month each, too new for a year-on-year reading.
The uses say what people want from it. Face searches are up 237%, hair 211%, searched as "red light therapy for hair growth" and "for hair loss", and pain 161%. The broader "red light therapy for skin" draws 14,800 searches a month and is up 31% over a year, and its phrasing is a buyer's checklist: "fda approved", "how to use", "face or body", "red vs blue", "can it damage skin". Hair has its own device now: the red light therapy hat grew 1,062% and draws 2,400 searches a month. The newest use is the mouth: gum devices such as Oralux and Gum Revive are small and too sparse to read as more than direction, and people search them for reviews before buying.
It is cooling after a peak. Every member with a steady series is down over the last six months, from -32% for Hooga to -66% for the full-body bag, and -33% for "red light therapy" itself, so part of the drop is the April season; compare the same weeks next year before calling a turn.
What a founder should notice: the face mask is crowded and has a mass-market brand in it; the growth is in body devices and in specific uses. A mat, belt, pad or hat built for one complaint, back pain, a hair-loss routine, recovery after training, speaks to the searches that grew fastest, and "best … for face / hair" comparisons are where undecided buyers look. The gum devices show the next move: the same light sold against a new, narrow complaint, and searched first for reviews. Any health claim needs care: people search whether it works as often as what to buy.
